Standardise Registration Plates for Club Vehicles in Victoria Instead of Historic Plates

Standardise Registration Plates for Club Vehicles in Victoria Instead of Historic Plates
The issue
I wish to share a personal story that resonates with numerous vehicle owners across Victoria. Sometimes, a car, more than just a mode of transport, is a cherished inheritance, carrying with it sentimental value and cherished memories. The original registration plates of such vehicles serve as an integral part of this sentimental treasure. Yet, in our current legislation, club registered vehicles are required to have historic number plates. This needs to change.
Victoria is home to more than 10,000 club-registered vehicles. Each of these vehicles has a unique story, a connection to its owner that would be preserved and respected by the proposed change to allow standard or custom plates. Stripping these vehicles of their original plates simply because they are club registered negates the emotional significance and historical continuity these vehicles represent.
Australia, with its rich auto culture, should truly reflect this in its regulatory environment, creating an atmosphere that honours, not erases, the vibrant personal histories our vehicles carry. This move will not only act in favour of maintaining sentimental value but also allow for a smoother tracking system for these vehicles in the event of theft or resale.
By signing this petition, you stand with thousands of vehicle owners in Victoria who believe in maintaining the integrity and personal history of their club registered vehicles. Your support could encourage policy change and ensure each vehicle remains as unique as the story it carries. Please sign this petition and help us advocate for standard or custom plates for club-registered vehicles.
