Standard Time? Let’s make it permanent, and here’s why.
The Issue
Standard Time is defined as the time we have between the first Sunday of November, to the second Sunday of March. Every year. It would sunset earlier, and sunrise earlier with standard time being permanent. But if daylight savings time (DST) is Permanent, it would sunset later and sunrise later. Our bodies are biologically and naturally linked to standard time, our circadian rhythm gets interrupted every time we fall back, and spring forward. It can increase car crashes, suicides, sleep deprivation, confusion, heart attacks, depression, and more. With education, if DST is made permanent, students would be going to school in the dark in the northern states, or in the sunrise in the southern states. Though sunset would be earlier than permanent DST, it would essentially make it easier for us to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, due to our mind seeing the sun and waking up, or seeing the dark and getting sleepy. Keeping standard time permanent would align with our natural light/dark cycle, and our circadian rhythm. Allowing for our bodies to better sleep, and wake up. In my case, I hate the time changes. My body gets confused when I wake up in the morning on Sunday in November, having slept the same amount I do every night, but it being earlier in the morning than before. In the winter, I tend to sleep earlier and wake up earlier, with a better sleep because the earlier sunset tells my mind that it is almost time for bed. Everyone’s body is different, of course, so everyone will react differently to time changes. Some people adjust immediately, and some take a while to adjust. But everyone is affected in some way. So if standard time were to be permanent, our residents would be healthier and have better moods and more energy in the morning. If daylight savings is made permanent, we would have less energy in the morning, since it would still be dark in the winter, and we would have the tendency to sleep in as well. I for one cannot always sleep in, but I know others and I might sleep in if it sunrises later. So I commend and urge you to sign this petition to make Standard Time the permanent time throughout the United States. Have a good day!
