Before taking on the American shootings, as Canadians, let's address our own issues with respect to gun control.  In recent years our laws have steadily been eroded and in 2011, the government ended the registration of rifles and shotguns, [including the powerful Ruger Mini 14 used in the Montreal Massacre] and destroyed the records of more than five million registered guns. In 2014, the government tabled legislation, Bill C-42, that would further relax controls on handguns and assault weapons, as well as weaken some measures controlling firearms and the powers of the province’s Chiefs Firearms Officers.

There are many differences between Canadian and American gun laws, but the proximity of the two countries coupled with the high frequency of illegal smuggling of firearms eases access to firearms in both countries. How much carnage it will take for the U.S. government to realize that the Second Amendment is outmoded, from a time when a single-shot musket was a weapon of choice. There were also witch hunts, hangings, slaves and burning at the stake. All of these things have now become against the law and frowned upon. The last bastion of an uncivilized era lives and thrives in the 21st century. An anachronism with an innocuously deadly juxtaposition. It is time to disarm, or be prepared to die or lose loved ones.

It's understandable that hunting, many of the poor folks in certain areas depend on that deer meat to get them through the winter or having a rifle when you live in an area filled with wild animals.  One does not need an AK-47 to shoot a deer. Needing fifteen automatic weapons just in case a bobcat shows up on your back porch where the kids are playing is ludicrous.  Too many guns are sold without background checks, too many mental cases fall through the cracks because of the high cost of health-care and medication in the U.S.

How many more Sandy Hooks do we need before we demand safety and change? Do you care? Imagine the most precious person in your life chosen to die, because a mentally deranged person didn't have the wherewithal to do what it took to fix himself? Before we attempt to disarm Iraq, and other countries we call the enemy, why not disarm ourselves, our own worst enemy, the enemy within, the war within.  All this talk of ISIS coming to our shores doing us in, not to worry, we're doing it for them, en masse. There is no law to report yourself mentally ill, if you know or don't know you are.  Your loved one is now but a statistic of the right to bear arms defence, and you did nothing to stop it ... Here's your chance.

Why is it that doing background checks of some 60,000 refugees fleeing for their lives, seeking shelter will take months upon months of investigation, talks and background checks, while [on Black Friday] arming 175,000 new American gun owners with weapons of mass destruction, [175,000 background checks, yes] took just one one day, according to the FBI. I wonder how many nutcases stockpiled that day, whom they themselves might not know they're mentally deranged, let alone the authorities.
