Stand with Iowa's Workers

The Issue

This Labor Day, I ask you to please stand with me in support of working Iowans!

Again, this January I will re-introduce a bill in the Iowa House of Representatives to increase Iowa’s minimum wage.  Last raised more than 17 years ago, today Iowa’s minimum wage workers earn $7.25 per hour, less than half the amount paid to Illinois minimum wage workers.

And, as you know, Iowa’s embarrassingly low minimum wage drags down wages paid to all workers. With personal income in decline, year-to-year; it’s baffling that Governor Reynolds and the GOP majority in the legislature can’t understand why there’s a worker shortage!

Please join me in signing this petition asking all members of the Scott County delegation to support legislation that will require a gradual increase in the minimum wage to bring it to $15 per hour over three years, with an automatic annual increase tied to rate of inflation.

Labor Day should be more than a picnic in the park.  Let’s also remember the workers the day is intended to celebrate!  Thank you.
