Stand up against bullying & harrassment in Queensland Ambulance Service

The issue

Over recent years, it has come to light the amount of bullying, harrassement, sexual indiscretions and unprofessional behaviour within the Australian Ambulance services. Queensland Ambulance Service is no exception! It's time to take a stand, and together, create a safer and inclusive workplace.

Bullying is when people deliberately use words or actions repeatedly against an individual or a group to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. They usually want to make the person feel less powerful or helpless. Harassment includes any unwelcome behaviour that offends, humiliates or intimidates a person. (Healthdirect)

Bully, harassment, racism, ageism, discrimination and sexual misconduct have been a part of the Queensland Ambulance Service culture for many years, something which continues to this day. QAS has become very adaptable in its practices to cover such behavior's and even reward those demonstrating the manipulation skills required.

This sort of behavior's has destroyed careers, reputations, family and personal lives, not to mention the long term negative effect on wellbeing leading to increased instances of depression, anxiety, loss of self esteem, increased risk of drug and alcohol dependance, social withdrawal.

By standing together, we can force a change within the organisation, putting a stop to the bullying and harrassment and creating a safe workplace.
