Stand for the Inclusion of the African Union and Pan African Flags as Unicode Emojis

Stand for the Inclusion of the African Union and Pan African Flags as Unicode Emojis
The Issue
In this current age, acknowledging cultural diversity and representation should extend to the digital world, symbolic gestures such as emojis matter. Given this understanding, I find it disheartening that despite the clear demand, the African Union with its populous 1.3 billion people and the nearly 2 billion people of Black/African descendants globally, are left out of Unicode Consortium's current range of flag emojis. I understand and respect the Unicode Consortium's "no more flags" policy, but I firmly believe that fairness calls for these exceptions to be made.
If the 449 million people of the European Union can be represented with a flag emoji, why can't 1.3 billion people of the African Union have the same treatment?
Similarly, the widely recognized rainbow flag serves as a crucial representation for the 795 million in the LGBTQ+ community worldwide, yet the Pan-African red, black, and green horizontal-striped flag—which directly inspired nearly 55 national flags—is conspicuously absent.
These flags are not just emblems—they are symbols of cultural identity, of unity, and of togetherness. Their inclusion in the Unicode Diary could act as a strong assertion of the digital recognition and respect of these global communities. Let's together press for cultural inclusivity in our digital communications, one emoji at a time.
Stand up for global digital representation and inclusivity, and urge the Unicode Consortium to include the African Union and Pan African flags as emojis by signing this petition.
