Stamford Municipal Government: Heighten security in Veterans Park in Stamford, CT

Recently, while leaving the mall after watching a movie that ended late, I - a high school student- and four of my friends were assaulted by a group of teenagers not much older than us. We had been walking through Veterans park to wait to get picked up by our parents. I and one other friend were violently attacked by a group of almost thirty people. I was punched and kicked repeatedly in the back, torso, stomach, and head/face. Thankfully, two good samaritans had the courage to step in and break it up. Unfortunately, their actions will not be enough to prevent further violence of this kind from happening in Veterans park. After speaking with the police, I was told that acts such as these are not only common, but have been perpetrated by roughly the same group of people several times before. In order to make this park a safer place, I have started this online petition to increase security in Veterans Park, as well as other contiguous areas. I know for a fact, that teenagers from nearby areas, as well as families, senior citizens, and children all frequent this park, either to pass through it to get to the mall, or simply to enjoy it. We should not let this park become inaccessible to people due to fear of violence. Your signatures will help make Veterans park a safer place by encouraging the Stamford municipal government to enact security measures (such as increasing police presence, add cameras to enhance surveillance capabilities, or by stationing police cars closer to the area) and make Stamford a safer place. Thank you -Gabriel Iskandar
