Post 16 students are required by law to remain in education and/or training until they are 18. Here in East Devon many students remain in education and attend Exmouth Community College (ECC), the only provision in the local area. Prior to attending the post 16 provision at ECC students in the surrounding villages and towns are provided with free bus travel to facilitate attendance. In most other areas of Devon a subsidised travel scheme is provided for students allowing access to a range of post 16 provisions in surrounding areas or zones - East Devon students are not included in this and are paying a heavy penalty by being excluded from these zones - even to attend their local school. We believe this should be reviewed and a similar subsidised travel ticket or pass should be available for students in East Devon.
