The Issue

The beloved Stage Craft program at McCaig Elementary, led by the talented and dedicated Sheli, is at risk of being moved from its current after-school time slot to a lunchtime club. As parents and supporters of this unique arts opportunity, we believe this change would significantly limit the program’s impact and accessibility.

Stage Craft is more than just an extracurricular activity—it’s a space where students build confidence, explore creativity, and express themselves through music in a supportive environment. Holding it after school gives students the time, energy, and focus they need to fully benefit from this experience.

Moving Stage Craft to lunchtime raises several concerns:

Lunchtime is critical for students to eat, recharge, and enjoy outdoor play.
Many families pay for lunch supervision, which would lose value if students are in a structured program instead.
The after-school setting allows deeper engagement with the material, something that’s not possible during a shortened midday break.

We understand the importance of balancing schedules, including after-school daycare programs, but we believe this decision should not come at the expense of a thriving, meaningful arts opportunity that so many students cherish.

We’re asking for your support to urge the school to reconsider the decision and explore ways to keep Stage Craft as an after-school program. With enough community voices, we can protect and preserve this enriching part of McCaig’s culture.

Please sign and share this petition to help us bring Stage Craft back to its proper time—after school. Thank you for supporting creativity, self-expression, and the arts in our children’s lives!
