ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) in St. Tammany Parish Schools

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) in St. Tammany Parish Schools
The Issue
On the kid side of things-
—Kids cannot focus if they are engaging in problem behaviors. —They won’t progress academically, learn social skills, etc. which minimizes on the opportunities for them to function independently as adults.
—Kids are being unnecessarily restrained because behavior intervention plans aren’t closely monitored or implemented.
—Kids are being ostracized/singled out from their same-aged peers because they are disrupting the classroom due to their behaviors not being targeted directly as ABA would do.
Special education classrooms in general-
—The turnover rate for special education teachers and paras is astronomically high due to the high-stress environment, which causes disproportional teacher:student ratios.
—Teachers are becoming frustrated because they cannot control their classrooms, and there have also been several cases of teachers lashing out towards students because they aren’t equipped to manage their classroom effectively.
Why ABA is needed-
—All students with 1:1 support means one less student for the teachers and paras to focus on.
—They can focus on delivering academics as they have been educated to do, while ABA therapists manage behaviors as they are trained to do.
—Teachers can learn the strategies that are effective as the therapist models what works for that individual student.
—All behavior intervention plans will be followed directly and managed continuously in order to provide the most effective plan as possible.
—The child will learn the skills they need to function independently as an adult by receiving the support and attention they need.
Please help us, help those, who cannot speak up for themselves!
