• Considering the recommendation of various committees and the request of students from all over the country, the UGC committee has recommended to promote students from first to third year to the next semester without any examination but in lieu of that students will be given assignments and project. We request SRM Institute of science and technology to cancel the Semester exams and promote the students to next semester.

•Mental health of students also to be considered.  How can they all of a sudden start attending college in the current situation, whatever the precautions the colleges can take. What precautions can they take other than providing sanitizer / mask. Staggered presence of persons at a place is one thing. Hundreds of students appearing at one college premises for exams is another thing. Students and even parents are mentally disturbed to send their kids for exams in the current situation, with the COVID infections rising every day across the country. Though not at the rates of other countries, for the lockdown restrictions to be effectively relaxed be effectively implemented infection rate has to become flat or start decreasing. Only then commencing inter district, inter-state, railways / air travel should be thought of. . Students in remote places need to get connected first to physically come back to their colleges. The other thing is the mental well being. How can students concentrate with COVID infection on one hand and studying hard for SEM Exams .

• The institute is requested to follow the UGC guidelines for grading students in their intermediate semesters as the students haven't completed the entire syllabus and lab sessions properly and the online classes were not successful as there were many connectivity issues either on the student or teacher's side, the extent of interaction was poor and most of the students have had trouble in understanding what was being taught. Many of the students in rural areas and towns where internet connectivity was poor failed to join most of the online classes. SRM INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY should take all this into consideration, before asking students to come to college. Which parent would like to send their children at this juncture without worry?
Also, each institute has all the Continuous evaluation data of students being done for assessing their performance. Wherever possible, use this Performance data of students (eg for a 4th Sem student, use his / her 3rd sem grade + apply a some formula to derive current session internal statistics) and promote him. What more of a calamity you want.
• This is an international disaster, unseen earlier. Apply simple rules and close the semesters (except final) through provisional grading and provide relief to the students, who are uncertain on the course of action that they have to take in the circumstances.
Treat this situation (other than for 8th sem student) similar to that been done for 8, 9th standard student being promoted to the next grade. By doing this, the strain on the college faculty and admin is also reduced, who have to concurrently deal with the 1st sem fresher’s, who are waiting to write the CET tests across the country.
Hope common sense prevails in the current mentally disturbed and confused situation of students and their parents in their best interests.
