Remove Denuvo From NieR:Automata

Remove Denuvo From NieR:Automata
The Issue
Denuvo has already served it's purpose for NieR:Automata and it's proprietors: to protect initial sales. Although Square Enix absolutely adores Denuvo, purging it from their games is not a foreign concept to them. In the past, they have removed it from Life Is Strange: Before The Storm a popular interactive story driven game. NieR: Automata would benefit greatly from the removal of Denuvo in the following ways:
- Better performance
- Faster launch times
- Smaller game binary
- Community approval
- More mod friendly
It is no secret that Denuvo adds performance overhead in games that implement it. Here is one example from NieR:Automata's cGraphicDeviceDx11::create function responsible for creating the Direct3D 11 interfaces such as IDXGIFactory (DXGI), ID3D11Device, and ID3D11DeviceContext (in the Hw::cGraphicContextDx11 class) among others. Observe the difference between the release and debug builds of the game. The release build is completely obfuscated by Denuvo contrary to the leaked debug build that instantly starts creating the various interfaces needed for Direct3D 11. This happens once on load affecting launch time and is one of many examples throughout the release binary.
In efforts to protect against reverse-engineering to hinder crackers, also effects modders who make mods like FAR and 2B Hook etc... that only help the game. Not removing Denuvo makes developing mods exponentially harder through code obfuscation compounded by a proprietary engine only results in less mods for the community.
In the end, Denuvo is redundant, affects performance and therefore, legitimate customers negatively. In addition it also affects Square Enix's public relations as the fan-base wants Denuvo removed. Not removing Denuvo displays a lack of regard for the community and their requests which directly affects sales on all later releases.
