Skate park for Sprowston

The Issue

Young people and parents have been asking for a Skate Park in Sprowston for many years. There are now plans to build a skate park on the new development at Blue Boar Lane, but there are some people trying to block this. Some of the reasons are, they feel that a skate park will attract ASB (Anti Social Behaviour), that it would encourage drug and alcohol use near their homes and that skate parks only cater to a small section of the community. As young people we feel this is not the case and most of the skate parks we have visited are thriving hubs, where parents teach their children to skate, scooter and bmx and is a place to go to have fun. It is also a way to get young people and children out of the house and active. Skate parks are also used by people of all ages not just young people. As young people we are frustrated and angry that we are always stigmatized for causing ASB. Please show your support for the skate park by signing our petition. We have also set up a facebook page called 'a skate park for Sprowston', please follow the page and get in contact if you feel passionate about this issue. There will be a meeting where Town Councillors vote, as to whether or not the building the skate park will go head. Once we have the date and time, we will advertise it on this page, please show your support by attending this meeting with us!! #haveyoursay #askateparkforsprowston   Can I also highlight that we attended a town council meeting, in this meeting residents pointed out that, they were not against the idea of a skate park in Sprowston, they just didn't want it near their homes. Planners have agreed to spend £100,000 to build the skate park and if it is not built here, as far as we are aware the planned skate park will not go ahead. Thank you in advance for your support.
