Sprint, Help Victims of Domestic Violence Cancel their abuser's lines without fees!!
The Issue
I am on the phone, again, with Sprint.
I've been on hold for over 46 minutes, and still not a single representative that can help me.
This is about the 10th time that I have called Sprint begging for assistance to cancel my ex-boyfriends' line.
In May 2016, my ex assaulted me late night in the middle of the street. I tore my calf muscle running away from him and lived with excruciating pain for weeks. I filed a police report, and started seeing a counselor at Safe Horizon. I was advised to remove all of our socio-economic ties.
I moved out, had all of my belongings removed, stopped attending our local gym, and tried to get his line removed from my Sprint account.
I have been calling Sprint for over 6 months trying to get the issue resolved, and they keep directing me to go speak to my ex boyfriend, who has a long history of domestic violence.
He has given his ex concussions and broken another ex's ribs - things I discovered after I moved out. I tried, at Sprint's behest, to speak to him, only to be met with him screaming at me on the phone, putting me down, and refusing to do a change of ownership for his own line. Sprint has been of no help.
They are trying to charge me over $600 to cancel his phone line. He leased a phone without my permission, and Sprint says that since he knew my account password, it counts as me giving him permission.
They lack a total understanding of how domestic violence works and how, when in physical danger or in psychological duress, a victim cannot make deals with their abuser. A moment of rage has no rational.
Continuing dialogue with my abuser in order to separate our phone line is causing me emotional stress. I am having nightmares and I am afraid of what he might do even if he found out that I wrote this petition.
In this petition, I ask the following things of Sprint:
1. Educate your Customer Service Representatives on Issues of Domestic Violence. No representative should be directing a victim of domestic violence to speak to their abuser.
2. Sprint should make exceptions for victims of Domestic Violence to cancel phone services of their abusers whether or not their is a phone leased and without a fee to the victim. Sprint can easily file these losses during taxes.
3. Sprint should not have victims of Domestic Violence on hold for 45+ minutes waiting to speak to a representative. Please HIRE or educate staff that can specialize in these issues. Please expedite assistance for victims.
I have been trying to get this line cancelled for over 6 months to no avail. Please honor your 2012 commitments to victims of Domestic Violence and actually assist them.
If I have experience this run around, I imagine many, many other victims have, too.
Sprint, honor your commitments. Help cancel my line, and that of other victims of Domestic Violence.
I have been on hold for an hour, now, and not a single representative has returned to the line. I want to move on from my abuser and no longer be forced to communicate with him in order to cancel this line.
I simply cannot afford to pay these fees. Please help us, Sprint. Put lives before minimal profit loss.
Thank you.
