We are the Nature Crew, a small-scale, short-term project initiated by a group of passionate students from Lahore, Pakistan. Our mission is to tackle the pressing food security challenges caused by rampant food waste in our communities. We recognize an urgent necessity to educate and raise awareness about food waste management to make a tangible impact on environmental sustainability in Pakistan.

Specifically in Lahore, the amount of food waste produced each year keeps increasing, and so does the number of people who cannot afford quality food. It also contributes immensely towards climate change.

Composting is the process of burying food scraps in the soil. This helps the soil regain its natural minerals and turns it into proper fertilizer that can be used in growing food in our gardens. These fertilizers can also be transported to our esteemed farmers to be used in food crops, that work day and night to protect and produce food for the whole country. Thus, we advocate for the installation of compost bins in communities, restaurants, and other public spaces, so that this effort can not only benefit us consumers, but also be more economically beneficial for the farmers who have to turn to high-cost synthetic fertilizers instead

Education is a powerful tool in driving change, and in addition to installing proper compost bins, we also urge the government to implement structured educational programs that engage both children and adults on a community level in understanding the importance of reducing food waste. 

We know that change will require a concerted effort from local authorities, businesses, and community members alike, especially from Lahore, because grassroot level change starts from the major source of the problem. Therefore, we call upon policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize food waste management by investing in education and infrastructure that will lead to a more sustainable future.
