SPEER AVE NEEDS A STOP SIGN OR SPEED HUMPS - CLIFTON

SPEER AVE NEEDS A STOP SIGN OR SPEED HUMPS - CLIFTON
The Issue
STOP SIGN AND/OR SPEED HUMP PETITION
As a resident of Speer Ave. Clifton NJ, I have witnessed, along with my neighbors, drivers speeding through Speer Ave. and car accidents on Speer Ave.
This is a major issue since many kids live in the area and play at Sperling Park (intersection of Speer and Samuel Ave.) Many neighbors walk their dogs at different times of the day and many elderly walk the neighborhood frequently.
Now is the time to act and provide a STOP sign or speed humps to reduce the speed of vehicles in the area.
Today 7/20/25, I heard a loud Bang! I looked out my living room window to see tires in the air. A car had flipped upside-down on the intersection of Speer and Sipp Ave. I ran outside and called 911 for help.
I noticed a young girl (about 12 years old) climb out of the car. The driver and front passenger (her parents) were trapped inside. Many neighbors came rushing to help. They were able to get the mom out. I heard the young girl say: “My dad’s arm is stuck”. A neighbor who was helping the family get out of the vehicle asked for someone to call 911. I spoke up and said I already had and they were on their way along with the fire department.
Many times, my husband and I have seen near-misses of car accidents on the intersections of Speer and Sipp / and Speer and Samuel Ave. A fellow neighbor who has been in the area for 22 years says he sees about five accidents per year at the same intersections. During the school year, there are many small children and parents walking to and from PS 13 only to dodge speeding vehicles.
As a community we need to be proactive and not retroactive. A young girl should not have to deal with her parents being trapped in a flipped car. Those who walk the neighborhood should not have to be fearful of crossing their own streets because of speeding drivers.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!
