The Issue

In our Minnesota community, we've welcomed many incredible Ukrainian immigrants who arrived through the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program. These individuals were invited by the U.S. when their homeland was in turmoil—bombed and ravaged by war. Their resilience and determination have deeply touched our lives, and they've become cherished members of our community.

But now, these individuals face another struggle. They've spent thousands of dollars to renew their re-parole and work documents, yet months have passed, and many are still waiting for USCIS approval. While their status remains listed as pending, they are unable to work, pay bills, or adequately care for themselves or their families. This bureaucratic delay leaves them in a precarious situation, feeling harassed and frightened by ICE—a far cry from the safety and security they sought when they left their war-torn country.

As if the situation weren't dire enough, it's once again time to pay and apply for renewal, even though they haven't received their last documents! This cycle of indefinite waiting and financial burden puts immense pressure on these innocent people, who already carry the weight of displacement and loss.

We cannot stand by as this situation persists. It seems the current administration may hope these hopeful immigrants will simply give up and leave, but many have nowhere else to turn. They deserve better from the system that invited them to seek a safer life.

What we need is immediate action from USCIS to expedite the processing of these documents. Concrete solutions include implementing temporary work permits while waiting for approvals and waiving the renewal fees for these vulnerable individuals.

Please join us in our effort to urge USCIS to address this issue with the urgency it deserves. Sign this petition to stand with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, ensuring they receive the dignity and fairness that every human deserves.
