The Issue

Nurses play vital roles in the healthcare system. The nursing shortage in Ontario is in crisis and is affecting everyone.

The shortage of nurses in Ontario has been cited as a factor in long wait times for patients at hospitals and other health sectors in the province.

To address this issue, it is high time for Ontario to provide an efficient process to speed up the licensing of internationally educated nurses just what other provinces have done like Alberta.

We, internationally trained nurses are suggesting to CNO the following

  • For those internationally trained nurses who passed Nclex within a year, should be waived from the requirements of (proficiency of english, evidence of practice and education education equivalence).
  • For those who passed Nclex within a year, to skip the lengthy NNAS assessment as this prolongs the whole process. Since passing the Nclex already waives the education requirements.

The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN® exam) has one purpose: To determine if it's safe for you to begin practice as an entry-level nurse. You will be tested on how you can use critical thinking skills to make nursing judgments.

We think that by passing the nclex exam, we have demonstrated our knowledge of nursing and our ability to critically think to provide safe healthcare to patients. Also, Nclex is written in English therefore a proof of our language comprehension.

It is our dream to become nurses in Canada and to be of service to people especially in this trying times. Thank you so much for reading this and hoping this would make a change to the current CNO process.
