Speed Bumps - Woodward Avenue (Between Guelph Line and Cumberland)
The Issue
A traffic study has already been completed for Woodward Avenue between Guelph Line and Cumberland Avenue; however, residents remain concerned that the current conditions continue to pose a safety risk. Despite the findings of the study, excessive vehicle speeds and unsafe driving behaviors persist along this stretch of road.
Woodward Avenue is a residential street with a high presence of families, children, and pedestrians, particularly given its proximity to local schools and community spaces. Many drivers continue to use the road as a shortcut, often travelling above the posted speed limit, which creates an ongoing hazard for those living in and navigating the area.
Residents feel that the conclusions of the study do not fully reflect the day-to-day reality experienced on the street. Near-misses, speeding, and general driver inattention remain common concerns.
As a result, there is strong community support for the installation of speed bumps as a necessary and proactive traffic calming measure. Residents believe this solution is essential to effectively reduce speeds, improve safety, and ensure the street better reflects its residential nature. Moreover, the upcoming work on Dynes Avenue presents the perfect opportunity for this road to be included in the works, reducing the cost of mobilization given the close proximity of the adjacent work.
