Speed bumps to prevent dogs & wildlife from being run over & killed!

Speed bumps to prevent dogs & wildlife from being run over & killed!
The Issue
Petition for Speed Bumps and Traffic Calming Measures on Hadley Common Road, Camlet Way, Sydney Chapman Way and Hadley Green Road. I have already raised this issue with the local MP and Barnet Council Highways team. We need a minimum of 25 signatures for this proposal to be formally considered.
We are calling for urgent traffic calming measures on the roads highlighted in red, including:
- Consistent speed bumps
- Reduced speed limits to 20 MPH
- Wildlife and dog walker warning signs
- Additional traffic calming measures where appropriate
These roads are regularly used by dog walkers, families, cyclists, school children, and wildlife, including deer and muntjac deer. Traffic has reportedly been travelling at speeds of up to 60 MPH despite narrow roads and limited visibility.
There have been too many preventable incidents involving wildlife, pets, and near misses with pedestrians.
On 18/05/2026, a baby deer was struck by a car and critically injured. Local residents had to transport it to emergency veterinary care, where it sadly had to be put down due to its injuries.
Next time, it may not be wildlife... it could be a pet, cyclist, child, or pedestrian.
Areas needing urgent attention:
Area A & B (Hadley Common Road and Camlet Way):
- These roads pass through wildlife and dog walking areas, with animals regularly close to traffic. Mount House School is also nearby, increasing pedestrian safety concerns.
Area C (Sydney Chapman Way and Hadley Green Road):
- These roads also cut through green spaces frequently used by dog walkers and wildlife and require the same safety measures.
Why sign?
Your support will help:
- Protect wildlife and pets.
- Improve safety for pedestrians and children.
- Reduce speeding traffic.
- Help prevent avoidable injuries and accidents.
There is strong local support for improving road safety in these areas. Please sign this petition to help create safer roads for people, pets, and wildlife.
