I believe addiction to alcohol and drugs is on an epidemic level in our country. I personally lost 3 kids due to an impaired/distracted driver. I am president and co-founder of the non-profit organization called AVIDD - Advocates for Victims of Impaired/Distracted Driving. Some of our victims, including AVIDD'S founders, have written a book entitled "Loss at the hands of an impaired driver" which is part of the Grief Diaries series by Lynda Cheldelin Fell. AVIDD and the Grief Diaries would like to see this book be a required reading for all drivers of impaired, drugged and distracted driving that have been arrested and charged with these crimes. To do that we must make it a law in each state so that the Judicial system will enforce this as a requirement for these arrestees. Driving impaired, drugged and distracted is a conscious choice. It is not a mistake. The crashes caused by these drivers are avoidable and can be prevented. We believe when they have to read the impactful testimonies of each writer in this book, it will influence their future decisions not to drive while impaired, drugged or distracted.
