Support UK Owner Trained/Non-ADUK Assistance Dog Programs so they can keep their rights!

The Issue

Assistance Dogs UK means to  propose a bill to Westminster to stop Owner Trained Assistance Dogs and non-ADUK Assistance Dog Programs from being lawful Assistance Dogs.  Meaning no access to shops, restaurants and other public access areas.  This would mean that a lot of people would not be able to live independent lives.

If this change were to take place it would be against European Union (EU) law as well as UK as stated in the Equality Act of 2010. "Where its illegal for shops company's and organisation to discriminate against a disabled person who has equipment to support their needs."

As I have trained my own Assistance Dog to do Guide/Seizure Alert & Response/Pain Management/Psychological Support and much much more. No one program under ADUK would be able to train a dog like Bear.

I have documented all my owner trained assistance dog's training in photos, video and comments.  It is more a training diary than anything but we have gained a following.  Bear Totem FND Assistance Dog

ADUK will not allow more than one alert type of training per dog.  The Owner Trainers I know have all trained there dogs as "cross trained".  This means they do many diverse things to help their disabled owner.  Yet we can't get certified through the Assistance Dogs International (ADI).  They only certify dogs from programs and are the basis of ADUK's power.  There is nothing in the law to say that we have to be certified at all.

ADUK programs that provide Assistance Dogs in the UK are so overwhelmed that it can take up to six years for a dog. Most of the lists are closed.

This change in the law would stop owner trainers from training their own dogs as well as stop assistance dog training programs who are not ADI certified from providing dogs.  It would be illegal for private trainers to help people train their dogs as well.

What sense is there in cutting off ways for these dogs to be trained when there is a very great public need for these animals right now as the law stands?

This is a threat to my independence and the independence of many others.  I am speaking for a group of Owner Cross Trained Assistance Dogs  I have gathered in the UK. We would like to block this change in the Equality Act of 2010. We find it unconstitutional and discriminatory. ADUK is purely a group of charities and has no government standing. Yet.

We ask for the same rights for our dogs as ADUK's dogs.  An Assistance Dog is a dog trained to be an aid for a disabled person.  They preform at least three tasks that mitigate that person's disability.  That is all.

Please sign this petition to help us make it known in Westminster that this new bill is unconstitutional.
