Anti-littering: Be part of the Solution, Not the Pollution

The Issue

What is littering?

The inappropriate disposal of waste materials is referred to as littering. Littering can be done purposefully or unintentionally, but both have negative repercussions for the ecosystem.

The Problem: Littering, Illegal dumping, Illegal disposal of garbage

People do litter it is because of laziness, Lack of access to trash receptacles, and  sometimes carelessness. Littering is bad for the environment, litter can cause serious consequences for the environment like pollution and spread of disease.

How is Littering Bad for the Environment?
Litter can have major environmental consequences in addition to being unpleasant.

  • Causes Pollution
Chemicals and microparticles are released as litter decompose. Because these compounds aren't naturally occurring in the environment, they can cause a variety of issues.
  • Kills Wildlife
Every day, animals are the innocent victims of litter. Over one million animals are estimated to die each year as a result of swallowing or becoming caught in improperly dumped waste, according to researchers.
  • Litter Facilitates the Spread of Disease
Trash that has been improperly disposed of is a breeding ground for bacteria and diseases. Diseases, viruses, and parasites can be spread by litter in two ways: direct and indirect contact.

The Most Commonly-Littered Items
Litter comes in many forms, but certain objects are littered more frequently than others. According to a study conducted by Keep America Beautiful, the most littered goods are:

Cigarette butts
Food wrappers
Plastic bottles
Disposable cups
Grocery bags
Straws
Beverage cans
Tire and vehicle debris

  • To ensure that the streets are clean and the litter is properly disposed.
  • To endorse liberating the streets and similar areas of litter.
