Get Information on the Future of the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition

The Issue

Since 2015, the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition has been a hallmark of engineering excellence among undergraduates and graduate students worldwide, drawing thousands of students from top universities such as University of Waterloo, Warwick University, Cooper Union, University of Strathclyde, RWTH Aachen, UC Irvine,Duke University, Illinois Tech University, University of Washington, University of Manchester, Ryerson University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Georgia Tech, University of Edinburgh, UC Davis, UT Austin, IIT Bombay, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and many others to work towards an open, accessible, and high-speed form of transportation.

This has resulted in the development of student teams at more than 700 universities worldwide that depend on the competition to spread the idea of the Hyperloop and to further their development goals in their local area, as well as to train crucial engineering talent with very important practical experience. Additionally, this has driven teams to find thousands of dollars of sponsorship funds from local and global businesses to support their endeavor in this work.

With the sudden elimination of the competition, even before COVID-19 restrictions, these teams are effectively left without both a mechanism for finding new students, as well as a way to remunerate top sponsors, eliminating potential jobs and potential support in the future.

Therefore, student teams worldwide are asking: What is the future of the SpaceX Hyperloop track?

Would you please sign this petition to show SpaceX that you support teams in gaining this clear communication? We would especially like to know:

1. Will there ever be another SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition?

2. What are the plans for the SpaceX hyperloop track? Will this be put into use?

3. What would the rules and requirements be for such a competition?

At this time, our ask for SpaceX is simple: would you be willing to have a discussion with the hyperloop teams? This would be extremely helpful.
