Back in 1997, Rhino Entertainment Company (via the Kid Rhino sub-label) released an album of songs from the hit Cartoon Network T.V. hit show: Cartoon Planet.  The album was called Space Ghost's Musical Bar-B-Que, and the success of this album prompted two follow-ups: Space Ghost's Surf & Turf, and the Brak Presents the Brak Show Starring Brak.

Now, 25 years after the first album's release, it's time to re-release these on vinyl!

Space Ghost's Musical Bar-B-Que featured songs and skits by Space Ghost (voiced by George Lowe) and his arch enemies Zorak (C. Martin Croker) and Brak
(Andy Merrill). Audio was mostly from the show Cartoon Planet, which ran on Cartoon Network in the mid 1990s. A spin-off of the show Space Ghost Coast to Coast, the series centered on Space Ghost recruiting his imprisoned evil nemesis Zorak and his loud and dimwitted archenemy Brak to assist him in hosting a variety show.

The character Brak's popularity prompted the creation of the two-part live-action/animated musical comedy television special called Brak Presents the Brak Show Starring Brak.  The special aired on Cartoon Network on February 20, 2000. The soundtrack was released later that year and includes performances by Freddie Prinze Jr, The Chieftains and professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page.

If only one album could be released on vinyl, the original Musical Bar-B-Que is considered the best.  Some of the most notable tracks on the album include:

Smells Like Cartoon Planet - A popular rocker from the Cartoon Planet show, later parodied by Nirvana, launching the Ghost (grunge) scene.

Ordinary Guy - In the parody of vintage crooners-- this jazz number is a future standard.

The Song That Doesn't End - Sung by Brak, the song ends because Zorak makes him.  But man it really didn't have to end. The song was originally made for puppeteer Shari Lewis' series Lamb Chop's Play-Along, serving as the ending theme for her show.

Highway 40 Unplugged - Later in his career, Brak would sing this classic as a duet with Freddie Prinze Jr.  Here, the recording shows Brak altering lyrics while singing them-- a rare insight into his genius.
