Why SWAFAA Was Created

SWAFAA — the Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant Association — was formed because the current system no longer works for us.

Over time, too many Flight Attendants have experienced:

- A lack of transparency and accountability from union leadership
- Decisions made without member input
- Financial mismanagement and broken trust
- Retaliation or silence when speaking up
- A growing disconnect between representatives and the represented

These aren’t isolated incidents. They’re patterns.

And when leadership no longer reflects the will of the people it claims to represent — it’s time for change.

SWAFAA was created to build something better. Something finally for us.

What We’re Building

SWAFAA is a bold, member-led initiative to create a new independent union — one built from the ground up with:

- Real term limits
- Full financial transparency
- Direct member control over leadership and priorities
- Safeguards against corruption
- A clear Constitution and Bylaws designed to serve Flight Attendants — not power structures

We’ve already:

- Formed SWAFAA Organizing Group, LLC in Texas
- Secured an EIN with the IRS
- Reviewing and adding finishing touches to our Constitution & Bylaws
- Building a vision — and now we’re building momentum

This isn’t just about reacting to what’s broken. It’s about building a system that works — fairly, lawfully, and transparently.

How to Support the Movement

There are two ways to support SWAFAA right now — both important, but very different in purpose.

Signing the Change.org petition helps us demonstrate how many Flight Attendants are ready for a new direction. It shows momentum. It signals unity. It’s a powerful statement of support — and we encourage everyone to sign and share it.

However, if you’re looking to contribute financially, the GoFundMe (www.gofundme.com/swafaa) is the only place where donations go directly toward building the movement.

Funds raised there support legal filings, communication tools, outreach efforts, and everything we need to bring SWAFAA to life.

What This Is Not

This is not an election campaign.
This is not a protest.
This is not backed by corporate donors or political machines.

SWAFAA is a grassroots movement created by and for working Flight Attendants — and it belongs to all of us.

We are not yet a certified union, but we are laying the legal, financial, and strategic foundation to become one — and to give Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants a voice that cannot be ignored.
