Why this petition matters

Started by Shaz dela

Sadly today 08/01/2020 another life has been taken in Peckham High Street by the Burger King. A man was knocked over by a vehicle and killed, I dont have the full facts on how it happened (I believe it was by a lorry) but he is not the first person to have been tragically killed on that strip of road. In September 2015 76 year old Mary O'leary was killed by a lorry as she was crossing the road. The road is not safe to cross, a few weeks ago myself and my son was nearly knocked over whilst crossing when the light was green for pedestrians to walk as a motorist decided he wasnt going to wait for the lights to change and run the red light causing me to quickly pull my sons buggy out of the way.

It is clear to see the road does not have a safe layout and there should be an island in the middle by the traffic lights for people to safely wait at and also outside the peckham pulse there should be railing along the centre island to stop pedestrians running across which is very dangerous.

My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones in these horrific accidents and strongly believe something needs to be done to provide a safer crossing for people to get across safely.

I hope that this petition will open southwark councils eyes to make a change and make it safer for the general public.. Please show some support in sharing this so that hopefully they will take note!

The government waste money on silly minor road works before the tax year is up but yet after a number of deaths on the same strip of road they dont think to make our roads a safer place by providing railings outside the pulse or middle islands at the lights.

Wake up Southwark council and make a change before another life is taken!
