Southern Railway Streatham Common - London Victoria Fast Trains

The Issue

In January 2022, Southern Railway introduced a fast train service stopping at Streatham Common, Clapham Junction and London Victoria. This service takes approximately 14 minutes to get to Victoria, as opposed to approximately 20-25 minutes on the stopping service which calls at Balham, Wandsworth Common, Clapham Junction, Battersea Park and London Victoria. This may not sound like a lot, but this is a significant advantage for people in the Streatham area as they start going back into the office. People in the area have already noticed and commented on the positive impact it is making on their commute and lives.

From the 21st February, the new fast service will no longer run and the trains stopping at Streatham Common will resume as stopping services only, making it a longer commute for customers once again.

I am therefore petitioning for this service to remain in place beyond the 21st February and as an ongoing permanent service. It will make a massive difference to work life balance for people living in the area. The Streatham community is growing as people are priced out of areas such as Balham which have faster Southern Railway services and the option of the underground. It will also make a positive impact on the development of Streatham, giving businesses faster access into central London. It will also be a good health and safety initiative, because customers will have the option of using both the fast and slow service, which will ease the spread of COVID. It will ease congestion, making the services run smoother and keep customers happy.

Streatham is a popular London commuting area and the fast services don’t exist at the moment to serve the community. By keeping this service, Southern Railway will receive higher rates of customer satisfaction and will be supporting the local community and continued growth of the Streatham area.
