Dunstan Hospital is run by a community-owned not-for-profit organisation and receives most of its funding from the Southern District Health Board (SDHB).

The SDHB has proposed cutting Dunstan’s funding for 2015-16 by 5%, as well as providing no additional funding to cover the strong population growth in the Central Otago district. This will mean a substantial reduction in the level of services provided, including the likely closure of 25%-50% of inpatient beds and a corresponding loss of jobs.
