Prevent the opening of proposed walk/cycleway on Broadfield Drive, Rathcoole.
Prevent the opening of proposed walk/cycleway on Broadfield Drive, Rathcoole.
The Issue
Please sign this petition if you agree that the proposed walk/cycleway should not be allowed to go ahead on Broadfield Drive:
- First and foremost, the proposed walk/cycleway is likely to cause a serious traffic hazard given the proximity and angles of the existing driveways. The layout and design has provided poor visibility from driveways which will have serious safety implications for cyclists, pedestrians and children.
- Secondly, the proposed walk/cycleway will be an ideal area for gangs to congregate. This is likely to lead to significant anti-social behaviour, as the area is unsupervised and not overlooked. Laneways in other estates have been closed due to the level of anti-social behaviour. Furthermore, this proposed walk/cycle way will have a significant impact on the level of crime in the area. It will provide a quick access route for criminal activity. This is particularly relevant given the recent increase in robberies in the estate.
- Thirdly, this is the only proposed cycleway in the entire Broadfield development which will be approximately 100m in total. It does not link up with any other cycle lane, therefore it is not of benefit and not required.
- Finally, the purpose of walk/cycle-way is to provide permeability/access throughout the estate. However, this was proposed before two access roads and paths were provided in Rathmill so the walk/cycle way is no longer required.
- Please sign this petition to voice your objection to South Dublin County Council on the proposed walk/ cycle way.
