South Boston - Re-purpose 372 Athens Street lot for resident parking

The Issue

South Boston parking has continued to worsen as more building projects come and residents come with them.

372 Athens street parking lot (behind Santander and goodwill) is located near the popular restaurants and bars on West Broadway. Having this as a public parking lot would greatly alleviate some of the parking troubles that residents consistently have particularly on nights and weekends. This parking lot is frequently empty over night and on the weekends. Cars are constantly towed from this lot due to the private ownership and oversight that they exert over the space. The city of Boston and particularly Ed Flynn - Boston City Counselor should consider taking this by eminent domain and opening it up to south boston residents for parking. Neighborhoods such as the back bay have many streets available to their residents only- 24/7 but South Boston does not share the same privilege. Restaurant goers and visitors consistently make it extremely difficult to find parking late at night and on weekends. This could help solve the problem.
