Now that Penrice is closed down and the Barossa Railway Line now officially disued with the "Stonie" (Stone train from Penrice to Osbourne) no longer running, I believe now is the time to start pushing for a trial service to the Valley. Not only that, but the Jumbo Railcars in Adelaide (Also called Supertrains, the ones with the raised driving cabs) are being retired as well Naturally work will be needed at stations and on the line itself. However you can all agree that the money, whilst probably a large sum, would be well spent. Not only that, but as I mentioned before with the Jumbos/Supertrains being retired, why not use them on a Barossa Passenger service. The current Government, along with its predecessors, have been too keen to throw away or sell off public infrastructure as a quick fix to it's debt problems - debt problems it created - as opposed to hanging onto them for long-term income. The benefits for an introduction of a trail/part time passenger service to the Barossa Valley - and the Mid North such as Burra - would be enormous. It opens up many tourism options and also makes our roads safer and less congested, with a reduction in car usage as people take the train. It's time for everyone to "jump on board" to get country passenger rail "back on track". Is there anyone in the Barossa interested in distributing petitions? Please email me (email at bottom of page) if you are. Sorry for lack of communcation and updates as I have been computerless for a few months and have finally purchased another one (using a mobile phone for internet is very inconvenient and somewhat useless - no idea how the young-uns do it these days!).
