Nobuhle Nhlapo started this petition to South African Federation for Mental Health (SAFMH)

Anxiety and depression are still very stiff topics in society. Therefore, those affected are still not presented with a platform to express their dreadful experiences and are not being responded to accordingly. One of the reasons why this issue is tossed aside is that society isn't educated well enough about it and we are still faced with utter ignorance.

This petition will not only provide a safe platform for those affected to find the help that they need, but it will also educate and inform society at large.

But how? Well, I've just started a business that is aimed at raising mental health awareness. It's called The Blues of a Sad Bird and I sell cupcakes that have notes and depression emergency lines attached to them. This initiative helps reach out to random members of society with the intentions of hopefully finding a sufferer of mental health amongst the buyers. In need of dire support, knowing that there is help and hope for them, it could help save a person from suicide.

Community involvement is of paramount importance as this condition does not only affect adults, but children as well. Parents, especially those of previous generations, are most likely to have not been exposed to lessons on mental health and are therefore in no position to respond to their children's mental state in the correct way. This then creates another generation of angry adults. The cycle then continues. With help from this petition, we could save a sad soul from committing suicide and help educate for a much cleaner approach for upcoming generations.
