Allow Type One Diabetics to become commercial pilots in South Africa.

The Issue

In South Africa it is not possible to become a commercial pilot with Type One Diabetes Mellitus (Insulin Treated Diabetes) Although new technology allows diabetics to monitor their blood glucose levels through a continues glucose monitor (CGM) and control their blood sugar levels through a insulin pump, only a few developed countries around the world have recognized these advantages and have allowed Type One Diabetics to qualify for a Class 1 Medical Certificate, which is needed to become a Commercial Pilot.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) on the other hand, has not yet allowed this protocol for the medical certification of a Class 1.

Us Type One Diabetics have been excluded from pursuing in our desired careers for many many years.

We want to fly again!

Please support us :)
