Petition for Souplantation to put out a cookbook.

The Issue

The news of Souplantation / Sweet Potatoes permanently closing was devastating to me.

Souplantation is literally my favorite restaurant in the whole world. For me, it wasn’t just their delicious and healthy (or unhealthy if you wanted it to be) food selection, but growing up souplantation was the go-to restaurant of my family and friends.

Birthdays, post workout meals, can’t decide where to go so let’s just go somewhere everyone will enjoy, Saturday night family dinners, you name it, we always ended up at souplantation.

Everything from the flavors to the ambiance to the always friendly customer service was welcoming and warm, and every time I ate at souplantation I felt a part of home.

Later in life I was able to share my joy of souplantation with others, whether it was fellow souplantation veterans sharing their favorite recipes with me, or me being given the opportunity to guide total newbies experiencing Souplantation for the very first time.

Every single time i ate at souplantation is a cherished memory, and when I think of Souplantation I can think of so many smiles, laughs, and full bellies I have with my family and friends.

The crazy thing is, while I knew a few friends who were avid Souplantation fans, i thought we were a small group. But once the news of Souplantation’s closure hit social media, I have seen an outpouring of love and memorial posts that let me see how for many people, Souplantation meant a lot more than just a place for food.

I understand that in today’s covid-19 world the Souplantation model of serve yourself salad bar is no longer feasible, but I know that myself and everyone I have talked to would love to be able to re-create the flavors and dishes that we will miss so dearly.

This petition is to humbly ask Souplantation to release a cookbook of their most popular recipes.

The deep kettle chili, Chinese chicken salad, and blueberry muffin personally come to mind but the more extensive the cookbook the better. There are so many dishes that we have fallen in love with, and being able to recreate these dishes at home is not only a matter of nostalgia but a way to reconnect with the fond memories and experiences we hold in our hearts.

Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes leadership: if you are reading this, please know that you have meant so much to so many of us. A cookbook would allow the Souplantation legacy to not end here but remain a beloved tradition that is passed on to the next generation.

I would guess that the proceeds of a cookbook would be marginal compared to the profit that the restaurant made, but for many of us the ability to make these dishes goes beyond monetary value.

We, the Souplantation lovers and everyone who will have the good fortune to taste a dish made from this cookbook, thank you for your time and consideration.
