The city of Berkeley plans to do away with 100% of all street parking on Hopkins street from Gilman to McGee, to install bicycle lanes, and reduce the parking by 50% on the rest of Hopkins from McGee to the library. There has been a complete lack of meaningful community outreach in the Hopkins Street Corridor planning process. There has been no outreach to the businesses and inadequate opportunities for corridor residents, institutions, and visitors of all ages and abilities to weigh in. They have scheduled the re-paving and transformation of the Hopkins Street Corridor to start this summer. We see this process as being particularly unfair to business owners and residents of the area who are struggling during a pandemic and are asking the city to “Pause and Reset” the Hopkins Street Corridor Traffic and Placemaking Study. I would like to add your name to the following letter.
