Release a David Mamet Director's Cut of Redbelt (2008).

The Issue

As a fan of martial arts movies when I see one that captures the spirit of martial arts so well I tend to hold on to that film. Redbelt (2008) is such a film. Directed by David Mamet, an accomplished playwright and screenwriter known for writing such films as The Untouchables, Hoffa, and The Postman Always Rings Twice, Redbelt had the potential to marry dramatic tension and modern martial arts choreography to create one of the all time American Martial Arts classics.

Redbelt tells the story of martial artist Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who lives by a strict code of no competitions, for he feels that such contests weaken fighters. After saving a famous action star (Tim Allen) from a brutal attack, Mike takes a job in the film industry. He soon finds his personal beliefs and integrity on the line as circumstances force him to participate in a prize fight.

In addition to the excellent cast of  Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alice Braga, Tim Allen, Joe Mantega, and Ed O'Neil Redbelt also boasts of real life MMA fighters and marital artists  Randy Couture, Enson Inoue, John Machado, and legendary Bruce Lee student Dan Inosanto (a legend in the martial arts world). The Fight Choreographers were John Machado and Rico Chiapparelli.

After speaking with a close friend and student of Master John Machdao (Sifu Jan Lucanaus) I was told more fight scenes were filmed but ultimately left out of the theatrical and DVD releases and became intrigued as to what type of movie we would see with these additional fight scenes and re-editing of the existing ones on both theatrical and DVD versions.

As a fan I want to see a directors cut that emphasizes better editing of the existing fight scenes and addition of fights (properly edited) that did not make it to the cinematic or DVD releases.

I petition Sony Classic Pictures to release a DVD/Blu Ray Director's Cut of Redbelt with re-edited existing fight scenes and fight scenes filmed (properly edited) that we left out of the theatrical and DVD version of Redbelt currently available.
