Give Gravity Rush 2 players access to the in-game content locked by the server shutdown.
The Issue
Gravity Rush 2 is a PlayStation exclusive that released in 2017, and subsequently had its servers shutdown in 2018. With the server shutdown, players were locked out of access to certain game items (costumes, talismans, props, etc.). This content is still in the software itself as evidenced by this reddit post where fans are editing the save data using PS4 save wizard to change hex values to unlock the rewards: https://www.reddit.com/r/gravityrush/comments/hab8uy/gravity_rush_2_online_items_unlock_service/
Unfortunately, doing this is expensive as save wizard costs $59.99 USD. Instead of fans having to shell out money to third-parties to be able to access content of a game that they bought, PlayStation should update the game so that all players can access this content. Seeing as just mere editing save data can give access to the content, this shouldn't be hard for PlayStation to do, and therefore this demand is not unreasonable. You can still buy the game and PlayStation will still get money from your purchase, but they won't do you the courtesy of updating the game.
You might be asking, "Why should I care? I don't even play Gravity Rush and it's not that popular anyways? Can't you play the game without these rewards?"
Let's then take a more popular game, Spider-Man PS4, as an example. Imagine if that game had 3 suits that were on-disc, on the downloaded software itself, for Spider-Man but new players couldn't access it since they did not play the game before a certain (arbitrary) date. The millions of people who have played Spider-Man PS4 will instantly recognize that the different suits for Spider-Man significantly enhance the experience and the game would be lesser without them. PlayStation and Insomniac recognized this too, which is why they provided many updates after the game launch to give players more suits. Can you play Spider-Man PS4 without changing suits? Yes. But that doesn't mean it would be okay for PlayStation to suddenly make some suits permanently unavailable. Furthermore, what if PlayStation then told you that if you want access to these suits, you must pay $59.99? Absolutely ludicrous. There would be an outrage in the gaming community and rightfully so.
Other fanbases beg for new games or for new content for an existing game, while the Gravity Rush fanbase is simply asking for access to content that already exists and is already within an existent game.
We're not asking you to sign this petition as Gravity Rush fans, or PlayStation fans, but as someone who loves video games and love playing video games. Please sign this petition and let PlayStation hear our collective voices!
