We, the fans who grew up with Sly Cooper, have been waiting nearly a decade for any confirmation of any new iteration in the Sly Cooper franchise. Long enough, in fact, that those of us who were children when playing this series now have children of our own. While this would be an amazing opportunity to explore the possibilities of a new trilogy in this new generation of gaming consoles, we would gladly settle for one final rendition of our beloved characters.

In every single iteration of the franchise, we’ve seen Sly and the Gang grow. It’s helped shape some moral values positively by exposing us to important situations that were handled with care. Situations that helped normalize trauma such as Bentley’s accident and to make sure we understood that no matter the disadvantages someone may have, they are capable of contributing great things. Murray’s shame and guilt for what happened, causing him to explore his own identity and discover for himself who he truly is, is a wonderful way to express that large men have valid feelings as well, and that it was important for his friends to give him the time he needed to care for himself, but also to welcome him with open arms when he was ready to face the world once more. The love a parent has for their child, such as the Panda King going to such great lengths to ensure the safety of his daughter, was handled with such care. The preservation of the outback in the second story arc of the third game was handled properly as well.

The greatest feature about handling these situations was that they didn’t do it in a method that was obvious. They didn’t do it to make a statement. It was merely the exposure to ideas on how to be a better person in general that helped make these lessons soar. Regardless of the fact that the characters are literal thieves and outlaws, the lessons we learned from the games include loyalty, compassion, love, self-care, and so many important values.

The franchise always gave us a sense of adventure and showed us, that no matter who you are, it’s okay to have feelings and to express these feelings to one another. It showed us that it doesn’t matter how large or small a person is, or even what country they come from, we can all work together to accomplish a goal. The bond between the characters has always been a very positive influence and we feel that, if given the chance to shine again, the franchise will finally receive the love that it has deserved since the very beginning.

Should Sony Computer Entertainment allow Sanzaru Games to develop and release either a new trilogy, or even one final game, it could also teach us another valuable lesson. Closure. Regardless of plot (example being that Sly finally hangs up his cane for good and the team finally disbands) or purpose (example being if it were common knowledge that what we would receive would be the final iteration we asked for), receiving the final iteration(s) would finally be the closure to a near-decade long cliffhanger.
