Reform Congress Party - #QuitGandhis - Save Indian Democracy

The Issue

Indian National Congress (INC) was founded on the principle of self-rule for ALL INDIANS. This party has represented (must never say RULED instead) the Indian people since Independence, for over 6 decades.

Smt. Indira Gandhi was elected to represent the party and the parliament as the country's Prime Minister in 1966, overtaking senior congress leaders like Shri. Morarji Desai. Disgruntlement in the party grew when the centrist party's new and inexperienced Prime Minister steered left suddenly and nationalised 14 large banks. This resulted in the subsequent expulsion of the PM Smt. Indira Gandhi from the party in 1969.

The expulsion of Smt. Gandhi from the party that held majority in the Indian parliament initiated a political divide within the party with Smt. Gandhi purporting the populist support. Eventually, Smt. Gandhi's faction with mostly blind followers of Smt. Gandhi emerged victorious and all the democratic elements from the INC were expelled.

At the time of Smt. Indira Gandhi's assassination, she was the leader of her party that held 66.7% of the Lok Sabha seats, a comfortable majorty of YESmen, YESwomen and YESpeople supporting her as Prime Minister. Her untimely death and the blind devotion of INC cadres to Smt. Gandhi saw the re-election of her son, Shri. Rajiv Ratna Gandhi as Prime Minister with an overwhelming majority of over 75% of all sets in the elected parliament (Lok Sabha). That was the last majority government INC has ever had and it ended 3 decades ago, even though there have been successful INC led coalition governments.

Today, the party is nationally weak under the hegemony of Smt. Indira Gandhi's blood descendants, their relatives and an ageing leadership committee whose purpose seems only to say "YES" to anything and everything Smt. Sonia Gandhi and her two children (both ~50 yrs) say. The party has had only an average of 48 seats (8.8%) in a 545 member elected Lok Sabha in the past two elections.

The economy is dwindling, the borders are not safe, there are so many communal riots and issues and our neighbours have turned hostile. Plurality is being eroded from the society and hate reigns supreme. Nevertheless, the opposition (supposedly led by INC) is clueless and does not represent the pluralistic, democratic and liberal ideals with which India was created on the 15th of August 1947. In fact, the opposition does not represent any ideals except to keep the descendents of Smt. Indira Gandhi in powerful positions. INC has also been unsuccessful in creating a coalition of the 60% vote bank in India that did not vote for the current government.

The signatories of this petition hence demand that:

1) All of Smt. Indira Gandhi's descendants, their relatives and their blind supporters to be expelled from the INC along with two generations of their successors, for the sake of the party and the country. They shall not be tethered to any channel of Indian politics.

2) Organise a grassroots movement akin to the pre-independence era based on ideals espoused by pre-independence INC.

3) Retire or expel all party "leaders" who are 70 years or older and or had power positions for more than two terms.

4) Set up a Lok-pal or ombudsman to temporarily oversee the workings of INC and to conduct internal elections for INC.

5) Organise a national convention to elect strong leaders to AICC based on an idea driven campaign and election.

6) Organise such movements and elect proper pradesh congress committee cadres based on ideas detailed in the previous demands.
