Somerset School Committee members and Selectmen: Appoint Melissa Terra for Somerset School Committee

The Issue

On May 23, the recount for the open seat on the Somerset School Committee ended in an tie due to a technicality.  On one of the absentee ballots, the voter forgot to sign his or her name.  Now, the open seat for the Somerset School Committee is up for grabs, and there has never been a more important time to have the right people in the elected positions in our town.  The last three years have been filled with controversy, and we need a School Committee member who listens to the constituents, understands their concerns and speaks truthfully and honestly to the voters.  We need a school committee member who will fight for the "little people."

Melissa Terra brings years of experience to the table and is the best candidate for the open seat on the Somerset School Committee. As a parent, Melissa has seen two children graduated and has three more in Somerset schools. She understands the variety of challenges parents face every day raising kids, juggling extracurricular activities, homework and maintaining a full-time job. She is intimately aquainted with the challenges of parenting typical kids and kids who needed extra help from the District with 504 plans and IEPs.

Melissa, comes with the most experience serving in a multitude of capacities having worked in a local school district, serving as Library Trustee and volunteering countless hours on a Recreation Commission subcommittee in an attempt to get an inclusion playground installed at Buffinton Park. She held several different seats on the Special Ed Parent Advisory Council (http://somersetpace.org/) including serving as President for many years. In addition to personal experience, has an extensive background working professionally with children with special needs, especially Autism and behavior disorders.

Melissa started a talk radio show in 2011 to educate and support families of children with special needs that can be found at http://specialstormradio.com/ . In addition, Melissa served a board member with the North PTO, the Somerset Berkley Regional High School PTO and School Council for SB Regional High School and Chace Street School. She is knowledgeable about budgets and served on the Kindergarten grant committee as well as supplied research and information to help initiate the Technology Subcommittee. She has also been part of school teams who have worked on the NEASC standards for the District.

Her extensive experience working collaboratively on executive boards, researching information and advocating for what is what make her the clear choice for Somerset School Committee.

Sign our petition, and tell the elected Town officals how Melissa has personally helped your or why you want her to be appointed to the Somerset School Committee.  The time for change is NOW!
