This school holiday, in fact every school holiday, children in Somerset through no fault of their own are experiencing the trauma of hunger.

Recent attempts to continue support via Parliament were thwarted but it is within the power of David Fothergill and Somerset County Council to provide their support regardless.

Already we are seeing local authorities across the country stepping up and given that Somerset has some of the country’s most economically deprived communities, then it is only right that efforts to support these children in crisis are delivered quickly and decisively by the Council.

No child should ever have to experience hunger.

The impacts on their development are well documented but we as a community are in a position of social responsibility to assist them in these challenging times.

So please David, and Somerset County Council, keep this provision going throughout every school holiday, particularly during this crisis, and know that we, the communities of Somerset, are behind you all the way in doing what is right for these kids.
