Guarantee Basic Housing Rights for Female Students at Shih Chien University

保障實踐大學女學生基本住宿權

Some girls come to Taipei to dream.
Some girls are trying to find a bed first.

 

有些女生來台北，是為了追夢。
有些女生，現在卻連一張床都找不到。

We are female students at Shih Chien University.
Many of us are students from the Department of Communications Design.

Some of us come from other parts of Taiwan.
Some of us come from Southeast Asia.
Some of us come from all over the world.

我們是實踐大學的女學生。
我們很多人，是媒體傳達設計學系的學生。

有些人來自台灣其他縣市。
有些人來自東南亞。
也有些人，來自世界各地。

We came to Taipei because we believed in Shih Chien’s design education.

我們來台北，是因為相信實踐的設計教育。

We believed that if we worked hard enough to study here,
we would at least have a safe place to stay.

我們以為，只要努力考上實踐、來台灣讀書，
至少會有地方住。

But now, many female students were not assigned a dormitory bed.

可是現在，很多女學生沒有抽到宿舍床位。

We are searching room by room across Dazhi, Neihu, Shilin and Muzha.

我們正在大直、內湖、士林、木柵，一間一間找房子。

Some girls do not speak Chinese well.
Some girls are away from home for the first time.
Some girls are only 18 or 19 years old.

有些女生中文不好。
有些女生第一次離開家。
有些女生才18、19歲。

Some of us are still learning how to communicate with landlords.

有些女生，甚至還在學怎麼跟房東溝通。

We are Communication Design students.

But right now, many of us do not even know how to say:

“Please help us.”

我們是 Communication Design 的學生。

可是現在的我們，甚至連：

「救救我們。」

都不知道該怎麼開口。

Many landlords reject us after hearing:

“Design student.”
“International student.”
“Always comes home late.”

很多房東一聽到：

「設計系」
「外籍生」
「常常熬夜做作品」

就拒絕我們。

Because design students stay up late.
We build 3D models, PCB boards, posters, videos, animations, ...
We work overnight in studios.

因為設計學生會熬夜。
會做模型， 電版，海報，影片， 動漫。。 。
會凌晨回家。

But we are not bad students.

可是我們不是壞學生。

We just want to finish our projects.
We just want to study peacefully in Taiwan.

我們只是想完成作品。
只是想在台北好好讀書。

We are reaching our finals soon.

Other students are preparing for presentations.

We are searching for somewhere to sleep next semester.

現在快要期末評圖週。

別的學生在準備作品發表。
我們卻在找下學期睡覺的地方。

Some girls are already afraid that:

they may have nowhere to live next semester,
they may need to move very far away,
or they may even be forced to leave school.

有些女生甚至開始害怕：

下學期會不會沒有地方住。
會不會被迫搬到很遠的地方。
會不會因為找不到房子，而離開學校。

We are VERY SCARED.

我們真的很害怕。

 

Because we are still very young.
Because we do not have family in Taipei.
Because when an 17/18-year-old girl cannot find a bed in a strange city,
she does not know who to ask for help.

因為我們還太年輕。
因為我們沒有家人在台北。
因為一個17/18歲的女生，在陌生城市找不到床的時候，
根本不知道還能找誰幫忙。

We are not in Taipei for fun or tourism.

我們不是來台北玩的。

We came here to study design.

我們是來讀設計的。

We are not tourists.
We are students.

我們不是觀光客。
我們是學生。

We are not the problem.

The problem is that many girls do not even have a bed.

我們不是問題。

問題是，很多女生現在連床都沒有。

Shih Chien taught us how to dream.

But now, we are slowly learning what fear feels like.

實踐教我們做夢。

可是現在，
我們卻開始學會害怕。

We sincerely ask the university to acknowledge:

我們懇求學校正視：

— the shortage of housing for female and international students
— design students facing discrimination in the rental market
— the safety concerns of young female students
— the lack of emergency housing and rental support systems

— 外籍生與外地女學生住宿不足問題
— 設計學生在租屋市場受到的困難與歧視
— 年輕女學生的安全問題
— 缺乏過渡住宿與租屋支援系統

We hope for:

我們希望：

✦ More dormitory spaces for female and international students
✦ Temporary housing support for students without accommodation
✦ Rental assistance for young female students from outside Taipei
✦ A truly safe housing support system for students

✦ 增加女宿與外籍生宿舍名額
✦ 提供未抽到宿舍學生的臨時住宿方案
✦ 協助年輕外地與外籍女學生租屋
✦ 建立真正安全的學生住宿支援系統

Some girls are still learning how to communicate. Please do not make us learn homelessness first.

有些女生，還在學習怎麼好好說話。請不要讓我們先學會流離失所。
