Improve Road Safety around Bentley Manor Childcare Centre

Improve Road Safety around Bentley Manor Childcare Centre
The Issue
Bentley Manor Childcare Centre (the ‘nursery’) is used by many parents from Dorridge and the surrounding areas, but the access to the nursery is through a single short driveway off Box Trees Road. This makes getting in and out of the nursery difficult, particularly at peak drop off and pick up times.
Box Trees Road is also a fast moving road with relatively poor visibility when pulling onto the road from the nursery. In addition, the junction between Earlswood Road and Box Trees Road can be even more dangerous and last week we saw another collision that resulted in the road having to be shut for a number of hours. Luckily, there were no serious injuries but it is a real concern of parents that something more serious could happen.
We request that Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) review the safety of this stretch of Box Trees Road, and consider the suitability of road layout changes or additional safety measures, for example but not limited to:
- Allowing the nursery to have a separate entrance and exit;
- Speed restriction of 30 mph along the stretch of road; and
- Mirrors to make pulling out from the nursery and Earlswood Road easier
