The Issue

Stop the solar farm development on historic farmland.

The farmland in question has a rich history that runs deep through the veins of our community. This land has been cultivated for generations, serving as a backbone for the local economy and playing a vital role in our agricultural heritage. Notably, it is historically significant as the birthplace of Francis Scott Key. His legacy lives on through the fields that have been maintained so lovingly over time. The original farm, which is still operational, is adjacent to the proposed solar farm location, keeping the tradition of farming alive.

However, plans to develop a solar farm on this cherished farmland threaten to disrupt this longstanding history and the very essence of our community. While the importance of renewable energy is undeniable, this specific choice of location not only contradicts our community's agricultural identity but also potentially diminishes the value of the land itself. Far from preserving history, constructing solar panels here would overshadow our towns' historic aesthetic with obtrusive and rust-prone structures.

Moreover, the farmland is not just a piece of land; it could be a livelihood for many and a symbol of our shared heritage. Converting this agricultural haven into a solar farm, disrupts the farming lifestyle, and disregards the deep connection the community has with its land and history. The farm has the potential to feed thousands also acts as a living monument to our ancestors' hard work and dedication to agriculture.

We urge the decision-makers to consider alternative sites for the solar farm development, ones that do not erode the historical and cultural fabric of our community. There are certainly other locations where the environmental benefits can be harnessed without compromising land with such a rich heritage.

The owner of this property has been approached by the active farming community that wishes to utilize and cultivate this historical property, with regenerative farming practices. These practices help preserve the soil and use less chemicals. There are other options for financial gains that do not destroy the relations in the community and preserve the traditions that this community has been built upon.

Join us in our mission to preserve our community’s history and integrity. Let’s ensure that future generations can appreciate and continue the legacy of farming on this land. By signing this petition, you contribute to a cause that protects our heritage and rejects the unwarranted industrialization of our beloved countryside. Your support is crucial as we stand united against the solar farm development on this sacred farmland.
