The Town of Wilkesboro is considering updates to current regulations to allow for the
creation of a designated “Social District” within the Historic Downtown area.

Social Districts have already been successfully implemented in neighboring communities,
including North Wilkesboro, and have proven to support local businesses, increase foot
traffic, and enhance the overall downtown experience.

Under this proposal:
• Approved ALE-permitted businesses would be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages
to individuals 21 years of age and older
• Beverages may be consumed within the designated Social District boundaries
• The district would operate 11 Al until 11 pm daily (excluding Sundays)
• Additional rules and enforcement measures will be established to ensure safety and
compliance
• The district would support events such as festivals, concerts, and community
gatherings

The Town of Wilkesboro has requested that the Downtown Wilkesboro Merchants
Association demonstrate community support for this initiative.
