Soccer at Reeds Spring High School

The Issue

Soccer has been a large part of my life since I started playing at the age of eight. Soccer has given me the opportunity to be a part of a team, learn the value of sportsmanship, communication and teamwork.  It is my passion. I aspire to play in college and ultimately, to play professionally in the NWSL. Today, I am reaching out with a hope to bring a change to my own high school, a place that currently does not have a soccer team, which restricts my potential to grow and learn from this worldwide sport.

Our local recreational league extends opportunities for the younger age group up to the age of 15. Beyond that, the only option for students in my school district is joining a club team. Soccer clubs are very expensive and a huge time commitment for families. This predicament leaves players like me with limited options to explore and showcase our talents for college scouts.

Statistics show that student-athletes often perform better in school as they learn to manage their time efficiently between sports and academics (National Collegiate Athletic Association, 2019). The addition of a soccer team would provide an opportunity for more student involvement in athletics aiding in overall growth and development.

By adding a soccer team to my high school, not only would it provide more affordable avenues for passionate players like me, but also, it could cultivate a rich talent pool that can go on to represent our school and our community in larger arenas. Over the past few years we have been able to create the Wolves Soccer Club which currently has teams in multiple age levels.  This shows that we have a population of students within our district that are interested in the sport.

Let's rally behind the idea of a brighter future for our aspiring athletes. Let's Support the establishment of a soccer team at our high school. Please sign the petition.
