Allow Backpacks at Socastee High School

Allow Backpacks at Socastee High School
The Issue
Not allowing students to carry backpacks effects their organization and ability to learn. Students need backpacks to efficiently take their supplies from class to class.
The guidelines for students returning to Socastee High School, outlines that no book bags can be brought on campus to “ensure the safety of students and staff”. The novel coronavirus(COVID-19), has been mainly proven to spread through respiratory droplets meaning when a person sneezes, coughs, or talks. This then can be inhaled into the lungs of person nearby.
Searches made by administration at schools only require them to touch a book bag, ergo, not contributing to the spread of COVID-19, there are many options that can, however, replace this problem such as the use of clear bags.
For many students, it is important to have something to carry materials in to avoid breaking their computers and being able to carry a charger, as well as a change of clothes, music, and other materials that are needed for different classes, this makes getting to class faster and more efficient, as well as limits the exposure in the halls because students do not have to worry about dropping and breaking their things as they walk to class.
Furthermore, students in IB and AP classes require more materials for school(workloads differ from class to class), such as notebooks and binders to carry notes. It is imperative for students to be able to organize themselves in a comfortable way to limit stress and anxiety that ensue from these classes.
Many students would agree that being able to organize themselves in a comfortable way that fits their learning style would help with studying and boosting grades, but if students aren’t allowed a way to comfortably carry their supplies from class to class, they would have to cut down on said supplies that help their learning, to be able to comfortably go from floor to floor and classroom to classroom.
