Dear Petition Supporters:
After the press conference at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Foreign Correspondents' Association on July 19th, there was widespread news coverage throughout the world about Kelly's death after being physically restrained for 10 days. This petition was launched then and received many signatures, and since then there are new bursts of signatures after each article appears. The society launched at the press conference, “Alliance against physical restraint in psychiatric care”, has just had its web page revamped (https://www.norestraint.org). On September 7, NHK, the biggest broadcaster in Japan, will also be broadcasting a program on the theme of "body restraint".
Because of these initiatives, we expect that the public will become increasingly aware of this problem. So we decided to extend the signature deadline to March 31st, 2018 in order to let even more people know about it. Every signature counts so if you know people who you haven’t approached yet, please consider asking them to sign.
Best regards、
Martha Savage (Kelly’s mother) and the group
