Allow Washington to park in lot 17

Allow Washington to park in lot 17
The Issue
At the moment the parking situation in regards to Washington Hall is disproportionate compared to the rest of Southern New Hampshire University's halls. In prior years we had parking in front of and adjacent to Washington Hall, though these lots have been removed in order to create the Green Space and CETA. Over this time Washington's parking lot has been reduced to a single row, holding 17 cars, for Washington's 230 residents. In the school year for 2021-2022 our parking has been designated by lot, with Washington namely having lot 15, 10, and 12. While halls such as Kingston, New Castle, and "Wampton" have parking directly adjacent to their hall, the vast majority of Washington's parking is a distance away. As stated,, Washington's adjacent lot, lot 15, is a single row of spaces. In contrast full sized lots are directly behind prior mentioned halls. Lots 10 and 12, those subsidized to Washingtons residents to make up for the lots removed for new developments, are well beyond even Kingston's lot 9. As consequence the average Washington resident is left parking around 300 meters away in said lots 10 and 12. Given the parking situation Washington residents have resorted to parking in lot 17 behind CETA, especially when needing to bring luggage from their vehicle to the building. Public Safety has began to ticket those parking here and the residents demand change. In substituting one of our lots for lot 17, we can have a more just parking situation. In response we would need to move CETA's commuter parking, though with an extra lot for overflow, as well as current commuter parking we should be able to handle this change. A range in parking distances is usual for most commuters, with parking for Frost, ACC building, and hospitality center all a distance away from their respective halls. Meanwhile Washington Residents pay the same amount (if not more given our high amounts of freshman for parking) as all other halls despite our access being very different from the normal Hall. Moving forward we believe that the general solution would be providing Washington with the space appropriate for our residents, lot 17, and relocate the CETA commuters parking.
